Dense but in a good way! Super moist. I made it w/o the frosting, using fresh whipped cream instead. Made a delicious birthday cake for my father

The batter was runny but when it was baked it rose which was very surprising. But the reason it rose was because it had a lot of baking soda and if you have too much baking soda it can give you stomach pain. But luckily we only had a tiny bit of cake. Also the cake tasted like a really moist corn bread.

flavor was very nice, but there was too much flour.

There's not much flavor to the cake itself but the buttercream was pretty good, it was the saving grace.

I loved this cake it was so moist and surprisingly easy to make. I thought that the boiling was going to be a lot of work and time but it wasn’t.

It tasted good but I think my ratio weren’t proportional so the cake wasn’t spongy but more pancakey , nevertheless good recipe, will try again.

The cake itself is pretty bland. The batter is super runny, I was very surprised how well it baked as I was very doubtful because of the consistency. The cake is super moist! You can definitely taste the bitterness from the baking powder. I suppose a really good frosting would help this cake recipe out! My son (9) made his own vanilla frosting so the pic is not of the frosting recipe listed. I didn’t get the egg taste some experienced and didn’t have any vanilla bean therefore our cake was lacking in that great vanilla flavor. It did taste a bit pancakey. Wouldn’t make this again but loved that the super thin, liquid batter totally surprised me in that it actually baked into an edible cake.

The cakes did not have a good texture and were not fluffy like in the picture

I did not like this particular recipe because the cake did not rise like I thought it should have, the taste was not very good, and it was a bit too moist. I will not be making this again.

It had a great moist texture, but the flavor was more like corn bread. I'll eat it anyway! I didn't make any changes other than halving the recipe for more of a snack cake. Likely I will try a different recipe next.
