    Not really a copycat recipe as the original was, and remains, Michigan beans and ham hock, salt & pepper (to taste). That’s it. No carrots, celery, onions, garlic or butter!!! Been beans and ham hock since 1904 (actually before that)! Above may taste good but it’s not a copy cat.

    This was perfect! I can't stop eating it. Used a ham bone from a spiral ham I had frozen plus some ham chunks that I saved and froze. So yummy!

    Super! I did add a bit of brown sugar as suggested in the comments and had some heavy cream 1/4cup left in the fridge. The sugar certainly made a difference. The cream did not. Great soup.
    it was pretty good, byt next time I will use a regular ham instead of a hock ham. that ham was too rough. Also using broth instead of water would make it much more flavorful. Other than that it was great!
