  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 soda (teaspoonful of)
  • 1/2 salt (teaspoonful of)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 ginger (tablespoonful of)
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cinnamon (teaspoonful of)

    Directions

    1. Stir the soda into the molasses; melt the butter in the boiling water; turn all into a bowl and stir in the flour, sifted with the salt and spices; add more flour if needed, but keep the dough as soft as can be handled.
    2. Roll a little of the dough at a time to a sheet about three-eights of an inch thick and cut into rounds.
    3. Press two pecan nut meats into the top of each, and dredge with granulated sugar.
    4. Bake in a moderate oven.
    5. The recipe will make about twenty cakes.
