  • 1 beef stock (cube, I prefer Knorr)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 tablespoons garam masala (see notes)
  • 4 carrots (large)
  • 1 apple (medium eating-type)
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • oil (or butter)
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • salt

  • 3 tablespoons butter (ghee, clarified butter or oil, or a mixture)
  • 4 tablespoons white flour
  • 2 tablespoons curry powder (or more to taste, see notes)
