Description
A popular preparation in Italy during the dead of winter, this red wine-spiked doughnut recipe would be great prepared wth spiced red wine or sweet vin santo, though you should feel free to use whatever quality drinking wine you have on hand. The finger-shaped, baked bites are sprinkled with sugar before they're placed in the oven to cook. Enjoy them as a soon as they're done and warm enough to handle.

I love it that these donuts are baked rather than deep-fried and you can steer the sweetness with the type of wine you use. I used a Ruby Port and was happy with its richness. I also appreciated that these donuts are sprinkled in sugar before baking so there’s no race to get them coated while they’re hot as with fried varieties.
