Great. I make 2 and put one in the freezer. Adding the cheddar cheese in top is a must at our house.

Great easy dinner! I use lamb to make it even better and do a half and half mash of sweet pots and regular potatoes for he topping.

Is it beef, or is it lamb, are you a Cowboy, or a Shepherd, he said, she said, English, or American, Just make it and eat it or would you rather be a Pig and have a Pork pie I add a full bottle of red wine to mine and a glass of whiskey can never remember or tell what meat I used if any at all.

This is how I make my cottage pie but add grated cheddar cheese to the mashed potato and layer sliced tomato on the top.

It should be called cottage pie. I make it like this with the left overs from a beef roasting joint. I mince the cold beef left overs and the onion and add worcestershire sauce or Yorkshire relish (optional). Then I add mashed potato to the top of it and place a few knobs of butter on to make it golden brown when cooked. I do my veg separately as I find they cook better that way.

I'm sure this is very good, but it's NOT shepherds pie.

It's not Shepherds pie if it's made with beef! Shepherds herd sheep! Ergo it has to be made with lamb!!!!!!! Ask any Brit.

Delicious, simple, and easy to customize :-) I made extra potatoes after reading the reviews and they were def needed. I'll def make it for my family again! Perfect Sunday night dish, lots of leftovers are easy to portion and reheat for lunch through the week

Lovely, but shepherds pie is made with lamb mince. Beef mince makes it a cottage pie.

Looks yuumy but should be called Cottage Pie if it is made with beef. A shepherd herds sheep so Shepherd's Pie is made with minced lamb.

This was my first time making shepherd's pie and my own mashed potatoes, the recipe was pretty easy to follow. I sautéed veggies first, then cooked the meat (mild phobia of adding raw meat into cooked vegetables). I added garlic powder and a little red pepper flakes to the hamburger and then added the veggies back to the pan. I also seasoned the potatoes after mashing with mozzarella cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and a little bit of milk. Cooked for about 25m. Theory being, since all the ingredients are cooked, I didn't want to dry out the meat. When I put the ingredients in the pan I topped with a little cheddar cheese. I've never used a broiler before so I cooked on high for 3m. It wasn't awful, but the cheese browned more than I would have liked. Next time I will probably make a gravy for the dish. It was flavorful but a little dry. Could also be my own fault, not the most experienced chef. But will definitely make again.

Love it! I have made it so many times and it is always tasty! Lately I have been using grassfed beef from a local farm and you can taste the difference. I can't wait to make it again!

This recipe is very close to what I make, except I often buy ready-made mashed potatoes for the top. I have also added corn. The best thing about this is that the kids always ate it up! This can be made with soy hamburger for vegetarians, and it's equally good.

This is, by definition, NOT Shepherd's Pie. Shepherd's Pie is ALWAYS made with lamb. Because this uses beef it is properly Cottage Pie (typical American error--and before anyone grouses, I'm American).

Delicious! I needed to make more mashed potatoes though cause 2lbs wasn't enough. It was easy and very good!
