  • 3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 10 Tbsp. unsalted butter (chilled, cut into 1 inch pieces)
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 Tbsp. ice water
  • 2 Honey crisp apples (large, peeled and cored)
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
  • 5 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

    Directions

    1. In the mini-bowl of a KitchenAid® ProLine® 16 cup Food Processor, process the flour, sugar, and salt for 3 seconds.
    2. Add in the butter and process 45 seconds until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    3. With the motor running, pour the vanilla and 2 tablespoons of water through the feed tube and process until the dough begins to form a ball. Remove dough from the bowl and form into a disc. Wrap tightly with plastic wrap and chill for one half hour.

    Just awesome! I also added mashed apples before the apple slices and turned out very soft and juicy.

    Easy, delicious. I used 3 big apples with a little extra brown sugar and cinnamon. Only comment I would make is chilling a dough with that much butter for an hour makes it really difficult to roll. When I make it again I’ll probably chill it for 20 minutes.
