Ingredients

  • 800 grams firm tofu (try the Cauldron and Taifun brands, which are widely available, drained and cut into 3cm cubes)
  • cornflour
  • rapeseed oil (for frying)
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds (bashed)
  • 1 brown onion (peeled and diced)
  • 6 garlic cloves (peeled and crushed)
  • 3 centimeters ginger (piece, peeled and grated)
  • 4 chillies (green finger, : 2 very finely chopped, 2 slit down their length)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons caster sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 peppers (1 red and 1 green, ideally, cored and cut into 1cm slices)

    tasty. left out some chilli as my 4 yr old doesn't like it and reduced the quantity of salt. also used honey instead of sugar and probably less. still tasty despite the substitutions

    Excellent , made with Chinese Shinoho pepper paste. Keep tofu crisp and warm in Halogen oven.
